Dear Warrior families,
I am aware of a social media post titled “New CDC guidelines for reopening schools.” Read at face value, there are a number of items on the list, which could cause some angst among our parents, as well as our teachers and staff.
This graphic fails to paint an entire picture of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines though. While the list does highlight many points in the CDC report, it omits a key phrase found in the actual report, which is, “when feasible.”
In fact, the CDC specifically states, “All decisions about following these recommendations should be made in collaboration with local health officials and other State and local authorities who can help assess the current level of mitigation needed based on levels of COVID-19 community transmission and the capacities of the local public health and healthcare systems, among other relevant factors.”
In the way we ask our students to do so, I want to remind our community to “check your sources” and fact check any graphics shared. The internet is rich with false information.
The State Health Department and the Department of Education will take the guidelines outlined by the CDC and provide guidance to all schools in accordance with the needs of our particular area. This guidance is what will guide our work in planning for next year. I do expect that schools will need to have several turnkey plans ready to be implemented to pivot to the current needs of keeping our families safe and healthy.
As is always my goal, I will strive to keep you informed every step of the way. Not knowing the path can make us uneasy, but it can also make us better by learning to adapt. One thing we do know, is that together is better. I have assembled an Advisory Committee of faculty and staff to work together this summer to ensure we plan well for the known, as well as the unknown to the extent that we can. We will seek stay in compliance with guidelines provided by the state while maintaining a relationship driven, character focused program for our Warriors. We remain committed to showing care every step of the way, and we will always keep HOPE in the equation!
All my best,
